The technical industry is in full motion. The Dutch industry is currently undergoing a digital transformation, which presents numerous new opportunities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in this process, both in terms of applications and business models. It is essential for the technology industry as a whole to successfully embrace this transformation. Technology is necessary to address several major societal challenges we face, such as energy, environment, climate, healthcare, and security.

The Dutch AI Coalition collaborates closely with the Smart Industry program and aims to make the Netherlands the best learning, most flexible, and digitally integrated production network in Europe. The program offers significant opportunities to promote the application of AI in the Dutch industry and better utilize the opportunities presented by the industry's own generated data.

In East Netherlands, companies, knowledge institutions, and governments collaborate to accelerate the digitalization of the industry. East Netherlands has a powerful manufacturing industry with many hidden champions in the Achterhoek, Twente, Zwolle, and the Veluwe regions. Our goal is to become a leading region for digitalizing SMEs in the manufacturing industry, with innovative business models at the intersection of production, services, and sustainability.

We are building projects with entrepreneurs in Gelderland and Overijssel around themes such as AI for Asset Health Management (predictive maintenance and diagnostics), Process Optimization and Innovation, Industrial Robotics, Sustainability (energy and resource consumption), and (secure) data sharing. The focus of the AI-hub in this domain is to promote solutions that can be integrated and applied within existing production systems.

For the domain of Industry & AI, we collaborate with the University of Twente, Radboud University, Wageningen University & Research, and the industrial lecturers from the universities of applied sciences Saxion, Windesheim, and HAN, as well as Graafschap College / CIVON. Our partners include organizations such as EDIH BOOST, RCT Gelderland, NovelT, Kennispoort, Koninklijke Metaalunie / Teqnow, and FME.

Important (test) locations in this field are Perron 038 (Zwolle), Fraunhofer Innovation Platform (Enschede), CIVON (Ulft), Smart Welding Factory (Hengelo), Fieldlab Industrial Robotics (Harderwijk), and IPKW (Arnhem).

ICAI is the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence. An ICAI Lab is a research collaboration between one or more industrial, government, or non-profit partner(s) on one side and one or more knowledge institution(s) on the other side. ICAI labs focus on AI technology, are outward-looking, and aimed at knowledge transfer. Within an ICAI lab, at least 5 PhD candidates conduct research within an overarching subject.
